Two paths suggested:
1. Add asset --> after upload users are always asked if they immediatley want to add the video to a timeline and start annotating. If "yes" is selected, user is asked if s/he wants to create a new timeline or add the video to an existing timeline. After the timeline is selected (or created), the video is added and the user automatically ends up in the post-annotator.
2. More options icon / kebab menu of video assets offers the option "annotate". If the video is already on a timeline the user is asked if s/he wants to annotate the video on the linked timeline(s) (--> select timeline if it is linked to more than one timeline) or if s/he wants to add the video to another or a new timeline. In case the video is not linked to a timeline yet, s/he is immediatley asked to either add it to an existing timeline or to create a new one. In any case, after the selection process, the user ends up in the post-annotator with the video "loaded".
For both paths it would be possible to ask the user if s/he wants to collaborate right before s/he is redirected to the post-annotator (after timeline is selected or created). If no --> immediatley redirected to post-annotator. If yes --> user is guided through the steps for sharing the timline.
Sidenote: If a user adds a video in the Timeline-Viewer s/he should also be asked if s/he wants to annotate the video s/he just added. In this case it's anyway a bit simpler because the video is already linked to a timeline. The user can be immediatley redirected to the post-annotator.Usability UX Improvementshttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/859Disable automatic scrolling after scrolling manually (while playing a video)...2022-02-25T09:48:30+01:00Hansen, ChristianDisable automatic scrolling after scrolling manually (while playing a video)......and show an "enable automatic scrolling"-button in the annotation stream. Almost everywhere we're using a verb and a noun (**Add Asset**), sometimes also only the verb (**Add**) as a call to action or as a page header, but when uploading the asset, in the "progress bar" that you have in the modal, it says **"Upload Asset"** as a first step and the **"Filename"** as a second step. I think it would be more specific and more coherent/unified if we used a verb and a noun everywhere... or where possible.
Here instead of "Filename" it could say **"Set Filename"** or something like that would make more sense to me.

First, the reason for my suggestion: we again and again have to explain Timelines and the concept behind. On the one hand I think it's okay if there is a small learning curve and it will also become more clear as soon as the Timeline Viewer has some more features and visual elements.
However, things like the circumstance that annotations are linked to the Timeline and not to videos will remain unclear if people do not really engage with the concept (deeply). I recognise that even people of whom I thought that they got it, still get confused. Some things can be solved by improving UI and UX but I also ask myself how much guiding elements will be needed to prevent especially new users from getting confused or messing up things (e.g. moving videos on the timeline without the corresponding annotations).
What I would like to achieve is that you can annotate a video without adding it to a Timeline. To not mess up the underlying concepts of the software, I could imagine, that a "Session" (or "Annotation Session"; not sure about the wording) would allow you to create a timeline "underneath", that has exactly the length of the video that you choose for your Session (OR that is also an open end timeline, but the Session only displays the section with the selected video). So it's still a timeline, but you won't recognise it, you can't add anything else except one video/file. "Opening" a session will always lead you immediately to the post-annotator.
For the more advanced users, we could (later) add the option to merge Sessions into a Timeline. In case you started your work with a Session, added another one, and another one and then recognise that these Session actually already document a (choreographic) process, you could then still bring them together on one Timeline, merge them with another/new timeline.Usability UX Improvementshttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1079Define file's position on Timeline: add static(?) infographics to visualise s...2021-11-25T08:38:29+01:00Rittershaus, DavidDefine file's position on Timeline: add static(?) infographics to visualise selected optionJust a quick idea: could be an option to somewhere embed Illustrations that visualise how you are going to position your new file on the timeline.

Does not have to show up immediately, but there could be a "?" - icon or the question "Where will my file be positioned?" and if you click on it, the illustration is displayed. Probably requires some good graphic design / illu skills, because otherwise it will be confusing rather that helpful. There are also some more complicated cases, where it depends on how and when you added the previous file.
But generally you will be able to choose from a few different options in the future: synchronise will come soon and I think extracting the original recording date (#922) will also be an nice option, especially if you record with a tablet or smartphone where usually date and time are set properly (should be tested for live annotation). Those static graphics could be helpful to illustrate what each option will do.
Question: I'm thinking of static graphics because I suppose that everything else is too complicated, but maybe that's not the case?Usability UX Improvementshttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1081Post-Annotator: add option to automatically play back audio-annotations2022-11-25T12:18:11+01:00Rittershaus, DavidPost-Annotator: add option to automatically play back audio-annotationsThis is a use case brought up by several students in the HZT workshop independently:

If you add a voice/audio recording (as annotation) it would be great if you could choose a setting to automatically trigger the audio playback as soon as the video reaches the timestamp of the audio-annotation.
The concrete use case:
Students asked musicians to react to their video. The musicians added audio recordings exactly to the moment in the video where the file should start playing. For now, the students manually pushed the play button in the annotation as soon as the annotation was the current one/highlighted to achieve this. But I guess it could be automated.
I think this could generally also be interesting for voice comments/voice overs: they could be played in parallel to video in that way.
I think an extra option to select whether the audio of the audio-annotation should overlap with the audio of the video or if the video should be mutet in the moment the audio of the annotation is played could be nice.Usability UX Improvements
