However, a mix of the feature in #1067 and a "random order button" could fulfill a frequent feature request for creative work, e.g. to get video clips sorted in a different order, so you can draw inspiration from that new sequential order or to try out different orders without the need of video editing. This could turn the Timeline into movement score.
It would be very important to make it not a too prominent feature (which you can "accidentally try out") and there should be warnings (plural!) that this will mess up your Timeline and annotated videos in case you already used the Timeline structure your content and to annotate videos.
This was actually again a feature request at HZT in Berlin.Feature: Timeline Viewerhttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1139Add additional sharing option for Timelines (publication)?2021-11-25T11:25:01+01:00Rittershaus, DavidAdd additional sharing option for Timelines (publication)? In case we want to replace MoSys-Grids with some sort of "Timeline-Publication" (#843), it would be great to have additional sharing options.

I would simply call it "publication" or "publish timeline". This does not mean that it has to become a website, it can still be internal (maybe with two options: share with everyone in your "network"/instance or share with a group).
Publications could show up as a new category on the projects page.
The option to hide the "temporal structure" of the timeline (#1138) in order to turn the content more into an article would be good.
It would be an important feature to apply different filters before you share your Timeline-Publication (e.g. only annotations by specific creators, only annotations with a specific tag etc.)Feature: Timeline Viewerhttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1134Add "headlines" to Timeline2021-11-25T10:46:04+01:00Rittershaus, DavidAdd "headlines" to TimelineIt would be great if we find a way you can add "headlines" or "subheadings" to your Timeline. Would make it possible to add something like "rehearsal phase 2" to your Timeline. Ideally these headings would be accessible in a "table of contents" which could make it easier to go back to specific moments that you "bookmarked".
I know that we would have to solve this using annotations (which e.g. get a specific tag or something like that and are displayed differently).

This is really not the problem, because I guess this is part of the learning curve of the system.
But most of the buttons look very similar: they are mostly gray. Not only the buttons but also other info elements as for instance the **start** and **end time** of a file. I know this might sound as if I was contradicting the other issue I wrote about consistency, but I feel these "approval" or primary buttons (? - I don't know how to call them) have a different purpose and need to look differently. As the cancel button also does.
This makes all buttons and non buttons appear not so relevant or equally relevant, except for the **cancel button which is red**. The issue is that most of the users take a while / or also miss the action button that confirms that you are done doing changes. Our thought was, maybe style them differently? Have them have a green, dark gray or other color as a background? One of the users also said that she didn't click on Add because it didn't seem the appropriate action she wanted to take. She was expecting more of an "Upload" button instead of add..

If you add a voice/audio recording (as annotation) it would be great if you could choose a setting to automatically trigger the audio playback as soon as the video reaches the timestamp of the audio-annotation.
The concrete use case:
Students asked musicians to react to their video. The musicians added audio recordings exactly to the moment in the video where the file should start playing. For now, the students manually pushed the play button in the annotation as soon as the annotation was the current one/highlighted to achieve this. But I guess it could be automated.
I think this could generally also be interesting for voice comments/voice overs: they could be played in parallel to video in that way.
I think an extra option to select whether the audio of the audio-annotation should overlap with the audio of the video or if the video should be mutet in the moment the audio of the annotation is played could be nice.Usability UX Improvementshttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1079Define file's position on Timeline: add static(?) infographics to visualise s...2021-11-25T08:38:29+01:00Rittershaus, DavidDefine file's position on Timeline: add static(?) infographics to visualise selected optionJust a quick idea: could be an option to somewhere embed Illustrations that visualise how you are going to position your new file on the timeline.

Does not have to show up immediately, but there could be a "?" - icon or the question "Where will my file be positioned?" and if you click on it, the illustration is displayed. Probably requires some good graphic design / illu skills, because otherwise it will be confusing rather that helpful. There are also some more complicated cases, where it depends on how and when you added the previous file.
But generally you will be able to choose from a few different options in the future: synchronise will come soon and I think extracting the original recording date (#922) will also be an nice option, especially if you record with a tablet or smartphone where usually date and time are set properly (should be tested for live annotation). Those static graphics could be helpful to illustrate what each option will do.
Question: I'm thinking of static graphics because I suppose that everything else is too complicated, but maybe that's not the case?Usability UX Improvementshttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1071New project type: Session2021-11-25T11:26:10+01:00Rittershaus, DavidNew project type: SessionThis is really touching the software concept, so it's something we need to discuss, maybe also with @florian-jenett.

First, the reason for my suggestion: we again and again have to explain Timelines and the concept behind. On the one hand I think it's okay if there is a small learning curve and it will also become more clear as soon as the Timeline Viewer has some more features and visual elements.
However, things like the circumstance that annotations are linked to the Timeline and not to videos will remain unclear if people do not really engage with the concept (deeply). I recognise that even people of whom I thought that they got it, still get confused. Some things can be solved by improving UI and UX but I also ask myself how much guiding elements will be needed to prevent especially new users from getting confused or messing up things (e.g. moving videos on the timeline without the corresponding annotations).
What I would like to achieve is that you can annotate a video without adding it to a Timeline. To not mess up the underlying concepts of the software, I could imagine, that a "Session" (or "Annotation Session"; not sure about the wording) would allow you to create a timeline "underneath", that has exactly the length of the video that you choose for your Session (OR that is also an open end timeline, but the Session only displays the section with the selected video). So it's still a timeline, but you won't recognise it, you can't add anything else except one video/file. "Opening" a session will always lead you immediately to the post-annotator.
For the more advanced users, we could (later) add the option to merge Sessions into a Timeline. In case you started your work with a Session, added another one, and another one and then recognise that these Session actually already document a (choreographic) process, you could then still bring them together on one Timeline, merge them with another/new timeline.Usability UX Improvementshttps://gitlab.rlp.net/motionbank/applications/systems-frontend/-/issues/1040add "delete timeline"-button to timeline details somewhere2021-11-05T18:25:55+01:00Hansen, Christianadd "delete timeline"-button to timeline details somewhereYou open a timeline and see that it can be deleted.

I don't know what the color of the username in the main menu was intended for but maybe this was already going into such a direction. No matter if users can choose a color themselves or just get a random color, it could be used in the Annotation stream (Post-Annotator and Live-Annotator) to fulfil such demands. But I think it needs to be discussed. I also remember that Anton was somewhat critical of the use of such colour codes.
